Children's Birthday Tradition

Writing the word tradition always makes me think of and want to burst into the song from Fiddler on the Roof, "tradition." TRADITION! TRADITION! On a super side note, we saw the play with Topal for my birthday and it was AWESOME! Loved it....would go again if it were still showing. Thanks mom and dad!

Back to the tradition at hand....I have realized in my very short tenure of parenting that traditions don't always just happen, sometimes they do and sometimes you have to be intentional about them. As Grayson and Hope's birthdays are rapidly approaching, I am working diligently on keeping with a tradition that J and I are establishing in our home. We decided that every year for the kid's birthdays one of the gifts would be a book. Not just a children's book, but a book that taught truth. That way they would have books that they could pass on and use to teach to their children. The books have been books that Grayson could grow into, but also ones that looked good to us.

Here are the books we have put in Grayson's collection:
1st Birthday: Hymns for a Kid's Heart
2nd Birthday: The Jesus Storybook Bible
3rd Birthday: Sammy and His Shepherd (we are learning Ps 23 right now)

This year, Hope will get her very own big girl Bible, all books and maps included. Grayson got his for Bible dedication, but mom wasn't on the ball for Hope's dedication, so she gets hers for her birthday.
